Anger gets a bad reputation. It's labeled as dangerous, shameful, out of control — something to be suppressed, apologized for, and hidden away. But anger is a human emotion, and like every emotion it's carrying a message. The question isn't how to stop feeling angry. It's how to understand what the anger is trying to tell you — and how to respond in ways that actually serve you and the people you love.

At Peace of Mind Mental Health Counseling Services PC, we offer compassionate, nonjudgmental anger management therapy via telehealth to adults throughout New York City and New York State. We're not here to make you feel ashamed of your anger. We're here to help you understand it.

When Anger Becomes a Problem

Anger becomes a concern not when you feel it but when the way it's expressed begins to harm your relationships, your wellbeing, or your opportunities. Some signs that anger management support might help:

  • Outbursts that feel out of proportion — and that you regret afterward
  • Tension and irritability that simmer just below the surface all the time
  • Anger that's damaging your relationships at home or at work
  • Feeling out of control in moments of conflict
  • Using anger to push people away before they can hurt you
  • A court referral or employer recommendation for anger management

What's Really Underneath

In our experience anger is rarely the whole story. Beneath it you'll almost always find something else — hurt that was never addressed, fear that wasn't safe to show, grief that had nowhere to go, or the accumulated exhaustion of carrying more than any one person should. Our work goes to those roots not just the surface.

For our BIPOC clients especially we hold space for the fact that anger is sometimes a completely rational response to real injustice — to racism, to systemic harm, to being dismissed and diminished. Anger in that context isn't a disorder. It's information. We honor that distinction with care.

"Reaching out for anger management support is one of the most self-aware and courageous things a person can do. It says: I want to be better. I want my relationships to be healthier."

How We Help

Using CBT and other evidence-based tools we help you slow down the space between trigger and response — so you can choose how to act rather than simply react. You'll develop practical skills for recognizing escalation early, regulating your nervous system, communicating your needs clearly, and rebuilding trust in relationships that anger has strained.

All sessions are conducted via telehealth throughout New York State — private, convenient, and equally effective as in-person therapy. For clients with court referrals or employer requirements we can provide documentation of attendance and progress.

Court-Referred Anger Management in NYC

We work with clients who have been referred by courts, employers, or family courts for anger management evaluation and counseling. We can provide documentation of attendance and progress as required. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements before scheduling so we can ensure our sessions meet your needs.
